For me, the humour of SPN has always been a huge draw. I think the best thing you can do with a story is to make it both sad and funny; Supernatural ticks both boxes.
It isn’t just funny, either- it’s all-out ridiculous and knows it. In fact, you might even call it
The show needs these funny episodes to let off steam, given the nature of episodes like No Rest For The Wicked or The Prisoner. Yellow Fever took Dean’s PTSD and made it unapologetically hilarious; Fan Fiction was a gorgeous, nostalgic celebration of the boys’ journey so far. Hunteri Heroici dealt with Cas’s guilt and shame in pretty much the craziest way possible, and Dog Dean Afternoon was just plain silly.
I have no excuses to make for The French Mistake.
